Malfeitor stands as one of Norway's most enigmatic black metal entities, emerging from the shadows of Askim in 1991 only to vanish two years later, leaving behind a legacy that would spawn legends. "The Smell of Death" compiles the complete works of this obscure horde, capturing the raw essence of Norwegian black metal in its most primitive and haunting form.

Despite existing during the explosive rise of Norwegian black metal's worldwide recognition, Malfeitor deliberately remained in the deepest underground, choosing obscurity over commercial success. Their minimalist approach echoed the stripped-down brutality of early Bathory, Ildjarn, and Darkthrone, creating an atmosphere of pure malevolence that few could match. The compilation showcases their 1991 and 1992 demos, originally spread only through home-dubbed tapes in extremely limited quantities, now professionally restored and mastered by Patrick W. Engel at Temple Of Disharmony.
