Background information about 'Battle Hymns'
Manowar unleashed something absolutely ferocious with their 1982 debut "Battle Hymns" – a declaration of war that would reshape heavy metal forever. This isn't just an album; it's a manifesto written in power chords and delivered with the subtlety of a battle axe. From the moment "Death Tone" crashes through your speakers, you know you're witnessing the birth of something legendary. The raw energy is intoxicating, the riffs are merciless, and Joey DeMaio's bass thunders like cannon fire across a medieval battlefield.
What makes "Battle Hymns" absolutely essential is how it captures Manowar at their most primal and hungry. "Metal Daze" and "Fast Taker" showcase their ability to blend speed with crushing heaviness, while the epic title track "Battle Hymn" stands as one of metal's greatest anthems – a seven-minute journey through triumph and glory that still gives you goosebumps decades later. "Dark Avenger" closes the album with theatrical grandeur that would influence countless bands, proving that metal could be both brutally heavy and cinematically ambitious. This remastered edition preserves every ounce of that original fire.
