Background information about 'Addicts - Black Meddle Pt. II'
There are records that just hit different the moment the needle drops, and "Addicts: Black Meddle Pt. II" is one of them. Nachtmystium took everything that made the first Black Meddle so dangerously seductive and pushed it even further out into the deep end. This is black metal that isn't afraid to groove, to breathe, to let a Pink Floyd-sized atmosphere bleed through the blastbeats. The result is a record that feels less like a genre exercise and more like a fever dream you don't want to wake up from.
From the opening lurch of "Cry For Help" through the sprawling, hypnotic title track, Blake Judd and company drag you through a landscape of addiction, despair, and strange, beautiful transcendence. The psychedelic textures are everywhere, warm analog synths and liquid guitar lines weaving through the cold, desperate vocals. Tracks like "No Funeral" and "Blood Trance Fusion" are pure, unhinged momentum, while "The End Is Eternal" slows things into something almost meditative. It's a record about the bottom, but it never sounds defeated, it sounds like the moment you finally stop fighting and let go.
