When Australian progressive extreme metal masters Ne Obliviscaris unleashed "Exul" in March 2023, they delivered what many considertheir finest work to date - a wholly unique sound that's never been better. Born from the chaos of pandemic-era recording across multiple studios and continents, thisfourth LP had a challenging conception with tracking commencing in March 2020, keeping the band apart physically for the recording process. The Latin title means "exile," perfectly capturingpeople's sentiments about the pandemic and Ukraine invasion, with each person having their own story about banishment involving unwanted departure and journeys into torment, passion, longing and despair.The album feels truly organic and alive, embodied immediately with opener "Equus," where interactions between twin vocalists Tim Charles and Xenoyr weave the overarching tapestry.
