Background information about 'A Year With No Summer'
Obsidian Kingdom delivers a haunting masterpiece with "A Year With No Summer", an album that captures the essence of atmospheric despair and progressive complexity. The Spanish collective crafts seven tracks that feel like sonic landscapes painted in shades of melancholy, where crushing heaviness meets delicate ambient passages. The title track sets the tone with its apocalyptic atmosphere, while songs like "Darkness" and "Black Swan" showcase the band's ability to weave intricate melodies through walls of distorted guitars and ethereal vocals.
The album's conceptual nature becomes evident as each track flows seamlessly into the next, creating a cohesive journey through themes of isolation and existential dread. "The Kandinsky Group" stands out as a particularly compelling piece, blending post-metal dynamics with progressive rock sensibilities. The production allows every element to breathe while maintaining the crushing weight that defines their sound, making this release a standout in the progressive metal landscape.
