Background information about 'I Trollskogens Drömmande Mörker'

Otyg are the kind of band that makes you want to light a fire in the middle of the forest and howl at the moon. "I Trollskogens Drömmande Mörker" — the dreaming darkness of the troll forest — is folk metal the way it was meant to be played: fiddles and flutes dancing over crunching riffs, mountain-troll choirs trading lines with a voice that sounds like it was carved from wet granite. This is music with dirt under its fingernails.

What makes this record so magnetic is its refusal to choose between beauty and brutality. One moment you are swept up in a whirling, beer-soaked polka that begs for a dance floor of pine needles, the next the guitars drop into a doom-laden march that feels like a glacier shifting in the dark. The melodies are the real weapon here: they burrow into your skull and stay there, humming along long after the needle lifts. Everything sounds organic, warm, played by human hands in a room that smells of woodsmoke and old mead.

For anyone who grew up on the greats of Scandinavian folk metal, this is a welcome return to the roots — no glossy overproduction, no shortcuts, just pure pagan storytelling. The Swedish lyrics add another layer of mystery, painting pictures of hidden folk, frozen lakes and ancient rites. If you have ever wanted to disappear into the woods for forty minutes and come back changed, this is your soundtrack. Pressed on black vinyl, it belongs right next to your well-worn copies of the classics.
