Background information about 'Die Evil'
Some records don't knock politely. They kick the door in, and "Die Evil" is exactly that kind of record. Satan's Wrath come tearing out of the gate with a debut that smells of leather, sweat and cheap candles, all ragged riffs and drums that sound like they were recorded in a bunker with the door welded shut. This is black metal that remembers it's supposed to be fun as well as foul, the kind of thing you put on and suddenly your living room feels like a basement show in 1985.
The title track is the obvious fist-pumper, but the real damage is done elsewhere. "Raised On Sabbaths" opens like a warning siren, "Coffinlust" is a two-minute sprint that ends before you've caught your breath, and "Castle Of Torment" drags you down into a slow, ugly crawl that's genuinely menacing. The production is raw without being a mess, the playing is tight without being sterile, and the whole thing clocks in under half an hour, which is exactly how long this sort of assault should last. No filler, no pointless intros, no mercy. If you like your metal nasty, fast and unapologetically old-school, this one earns its place on the shelf next to the classics.
For fans of: Venom, Midnight, Toxic Holocaust, Destroyer 666, Nifelheim
