Background information about 'VIII: Redefining Darkness (Re-Release)'
11-Year Anniversary Edition of the eighth SHINING album. Remastered by Andy La Rocque and visually refined by Nucleart Design.
Shining's "VIII / Redefining Darkness" emerges as a profound testament to the Swedish band's unyielding exploration of existential despair and sonic brutality. Released by The Sinister Initiative, this remastered reissue captures the essence of black metal's atmospheric darkness while intertwining elements of avant-garde and progressive influences. Kvarforth's tormented vocals are both haunting and mesmerizing, leading listeners through an introspective journey that questions the very nature of human suffering.
Recorded in the hallowed halls of Sonic Train Studios in 2012, the album resonates with an eerie clarity that accentuates its intricate guitar work and relentless percussion. Tracks like "Hail Darkness Hail" showcase Shining's ability to juxtapose melodic passages with ferocious outbursts, creating a soundscape that is as beautiful as it is unsettling. "VIII / Redefining Darkness" stands not just as an album but as an experience—a deep dive into the shadowy corners of the human psyche.
