Background information about 'Universal Monsters'
"Universal Monsters" is the latest chapter in the Finnish goth-rock dynasty's long and storied career, and it finds The 69 Eyes doing what they do best - delivering dark, cinematic rock'n'roll that hits like a velvet hammer. From the very first notes of Dolce Vita, frontman Jyrki 69's unmistakable baritone wraps around you like a velvet cloak, while the band locks into that signature groove that has made them cult heroes for decades.
The album is a masterclass in balancing gloom with sheer catchiness. Jet Fighter Plane roars with punk energy, Blackbird Pie stretches out into darker, more atmospheric territory, and Lady Darkness is pure gothic seduction. Tracks like Miss Pastis and Shallow Graves keep the momentum flowing, while Jerusalem and the haunting Never show a band still unafraid to experiment within their beloved sound. The tribute-laden Stiv & Johnny nods to their punk roots, and Rock'n'Roll Junkie closes things out with the kind of swagger that only a band with three decades of experience can muster.
For fans of: Type O Negative, HIM, The Mission, Sisters of Mercy, Danzig
