There are records that simply exist, and then there are records that insist. Untitled With Drums' sophomore album Made Flesh is firmly in the latter camp — a collection of ten tracks that grab you by the collar and refuse to let go. Hailing from Clermont-Ferrand, France, this four-piece has spent the better part of a decade carving out a space for alt rock that actually has something to say, and their debut Hollow already earned them slots at Hellfest and Nuits de Fourvière. But this? This is a whole different beast.

Made Flesh doesn't deal in vague metaphors or cosmic angst. It's about people — the ugly, the numb, the self-righteous, the desperate. Each track is delivered in the first person, each one turning the spotlight on a different corner of the human psyche: the itch to dominate, the comfort of denial, the particular sting of watching someone else get away with it. Lucas D.'s guitar work shifts between crushing weight and delicate texture without ever falling into formula, while Nicolas Z.'s synthesizers have evolved from mere atmosphere into a structural backbone. Rémy D.'s drumming holds the whole chaotic mess together with surgical precision, and Martin L.B.'s vocals carry an emotional charge that gives even the most sardonic moments their necessary sting. Recorded in a small town near Clermont-Ferrand and produced by Cyrille Gachet, the album came out harder and sharper than anyone expected — and you can hear every bit of that process in the grooves.
