Background information about 'Kostogher'

Two years after "Fran Marder" tore open the gates, Arckanum returned with "Kostogher" — and this time Shamaatae let the filth in. Where the debut kept a comparatively clean, almost ritualistic clarity, the second full-length drags its sound through mud, soot and sulphur. The guitars are sharper, the drums meaner, the whole thing crazier, and that is exactly the point. This is black metal as a hostile act, not a mood board.

What makes "Kostogher" so enduring is how deliberately it refuses polish. Shamaatae's songwriting keeps the hypnotic, chant-like structures of the early era intact, but he buries them under a production that stinks of damp rehearsal rooms and cold Nordic air. The ancient Swedish lyrics, the hand-drawn calligraphy, the whole antikosmos he built around the project — it all coheres into something that feels less like a record and more like a found artefact. Remastered for vinyl from the original recordings by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, the material has never sounded this physical.

For anyone who tracks the second wave's stranger corners, this is essential archaeology. For fans of: early Darkthrone, Dissection, Gehenna, Ancient, Satyricon.
