Background information about 'Violent Visions'
Alright, let's talk about Violent Visions – the debut album from Austria's Ludgar, and holy hell, this thing hits like a goddamn trebuchet (which, by the way, is exactly what their name refers to: Loup de guerre, the medieval war wolf). From the first riff, you know you're in for something raw, unhinged, and deeply rooted in the grimiest corners of the '80s underground.
This isn't your polished, cookie-cutter blackthrash record. No, Ludgar drags you down into a dungeon where the air is thick with sulfur and menace. The atmosphere is filthy, lawless, and downright addictive – a delirious blend of black metal venom and thrash metal aggression that feels genuinely dangerous. There's a desperate urgency here that echoes the chaotic energy of Hellfire's Desaster during the Dominion era, the infernal riffing of labelmates Witching Hour, or a more blackened take on Hellish Crossfire. But honestly, Ludgar howls from a darker, more putrid pit. The riffs are barbed wire, the drums are a war march, and the vocals sound like they're being ripped from some cursed crypt. This is metal that doesn't just knock on the gates of hell – it kicks them down and takes a piss on the ashes. If you've been aching for that genuine feeling of danger and dread that's been missing from so much modern extreme metal, open your eyes to Violent Visions.
