Background information about 'Satanic Royalty'
There are bands that revive a sound, and then there are bands that become it. Midnight belong firmly to the second camp. "Satanic Royalty" is the Cleveland one-man wrecking crew's love letter to everything filthy, sleazy and gloriously loud about first-wave black metal, speed metal and punk rock, and hearing it again on wax is like getting a boot to the teeth in the best possible way.
Athenar handles everything here — guitars, bass, drums, that snarling, reverb-drenched voice — and he does it with a grin that you can practically hear through the speakers. Riffs tumble out like they were written in a garage at 3 a.m. with a bottle nearby, the drums swing more than they bludgeon, and the whole thing crackles with the energy of a demo tape that somehow got the production it deserved. It is nasty, it is catchy, and it never once pretends to be anything other than what it is: a party for people who like their rock and roll with spikes on.
For fans of: Venom, Bathory, Motorhead, Toxic Holocaust, Hellhammer
