By 2001, death metal was on life support. The genre that once birthed some of the most vile, rotten filth imaginable had been bled dry by mediocrity and watered-down nonsense. And then Murder Squad came crawling out of the Swedish underground to breathe foul, fetid air back into a scene that was desperately lacking dirt and danger. Spawned from the ranks of ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, and MERCILESS, these four Swedes shared a burning passion for intoxication and, above all, the unholy worship of AUTOPSY. They vomited forth two full-lengths and an EP before retreating back into the nasty hole they emerged from.

Now, Ravenous Murderous — originally released in 2003 — finally gets the vinyl treatment it's always deserved. Adorned with a disgustingly beautiful cover by the late, great Timo Ketola, this album has AUTOPSY-worship written all over it. But where the debut was practically built from riffs that mirrored AUTOPSY's playbook, this one feels like an unreleased AUTOPSY album in its own right. Legendary Chris Reifert himself stepped into the studio to contribute vocals, guitars, and drums. The result? A deeply dark death metal record packed with politically incorrect lyrics that'll piss off today's moral police — and that's exactly the point. Mastered for vinyl by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony, this is the definitive way to experience this slab of Swedish filth.
