Background information about 'Consecration'
Somn do not do things by halves. On "Consecration" the band drags you straight into the machinery, and there is no polite way out. The record is built around a man fed into the grinding gears of other people's ambitions, and the music matches that image beat for beat: riffs that lock in like iron teeth, atmosphere that hangs heavy and cold, and a sense of dread that never quite lets go of your collar. It is the kind of album that sounds like it was carved rather than written, and you can feel the weight of every decision in the mix.
What makes it hit so hard is the restraint. Nothing here is wasted, nothing is padded out for the sake of a running time. The dynamics breathe, the quieter passages earn their space, and when the heaviness finally lands it lands with real consequence. There is a narrative arc running through the whole thing, and it pulls you along like a story you cannot put down even when you know how it ends. The performances are tight, the production gives everything room to breathe and bruise, and the whole thing carries that rare quality of a band fully in command of their own darkness.
