Background information about 'The Gates Of Slumber'

After a decade-long silence, Indiana's doom metal titans The Gates of Slumber have returned with their crushing self-titled sixth album, marking their triumphant comeback since 2011's "The Wretch". This isn't just another doom record – it's a masterclass in heavy metal brutality that honors the genre's forefathers while carving out fresh territory in the darkness.

The album delivers bastard-heavy compositions that pay homage to doom legends Saint Vitus and Penance, seamlessly blending straight-forward bangers with atmospheric dread. Karl Simon's songwriting draws inspiration from the Black Death and John Carpenter's "The Fog", creating a sonic landscape that's both historically haunting and cinematically terrifying. Each track crushes with the weight of genuine doom metal craftsmanship, proving why Decibel Magazine once declared them "one of the best heavy metal bands in the world."

For fans of:
Saint Vitus, Penance, Cathedral, Reverend Bizarre, Pentagram
