Background information about 'XII: A Gyönyörű Álmok Ezután Jönnek'

Tamás Kátai has never been one to sit still, and on "XII: A Gyönyörű Álmok Ezután Jönnek" he steers Thy Catafalque down a path that feels like a slow walk through a half-remembered dream. The twelfth album opens with "Piros kocsi, fekete éj", and within seconds you know you are somewhere strange and beautiful. Attila Bakos returns on clean vocals, his voice soaring in Hungarian over shimmering airwaves, fifteen years after he first lent it to the project on Róka Hasa Rádió. Hearing him again feels like running into an old friend at a train station at 3 a.m.

The record is a dark night of the soul, but one with a full orchestra of guests. More than twenty musicians drift in and out, violin, cello and clarinet wrapping everything in the warmth of home. Then "Mindenevő" arrives and the floor gives way, all mechanized blast beats and distorted downpicking, a sharp reminder of the black metal fires that forged this band back in 1998. "Vasgyár" grinds along like the rusted ironworks it is named after, heavy with Hungarian history, while the title track glows with synth melody and a quiet promise that the beautiful dreams really are still ahead. Kátai's avant-garde instincts are sharper than ever, and the whole thing lands somewhere between comfort and unease.
