Background information about 'Morbid Desires'
After 35 years of unholy dedication, Norwegian black metal stalwarts Tulus return with their eighth full-length opus, and it's nothing short of a masterclass in sinister songcraft. "Morbid Desires" finds the Nittedal trio sharper than ever, weaving their signature brand of hellishly catchy darkness into nine tracks that showcase exactly why they've remained relevant for over three decades. This isn't just another black metal album – it's a testament to the power of evolution within tradition.
The album's genius lies in its deceptive simplicity. Blodstrup's grim vocals slice through an abundance of infectious riffs, while the rhythm section locks into those irresistible mid-tempo grooves that made Tulus legendary in the first place. But don't mistake familiarity for complacency – "Morbid Desires" is packed with surprises. Flamenco guitars dance with acoustic passages, beautifully chanted vocals provide haunting counterpoints, and the epic closer "Sabbat" stands as a towering tribute to Black Sabbath that proves these Norwegian masters haven't lost an ounce of their creative fire. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Andy La Rocque at Sonic Train Studios, the production captures every nuance of their devastating sound.
