The East Anglian atmospheric black metal masters Fen have reached a stunning new artistic plateau with "Elemental Part One: Mourning Earth", their eighth full-length that finds them returning to their elemental core while embracing two decades of sonic evolution. After the deliberately dense and aggressive "Monuments to Absence" (2023), the trio has consciously created breathing space on this release, allowing their haunting melodies and crushing riffs to unfold with organic precision. Much of the album was recorded live, capturing the natural ebb and flow of their compositions in a way that feels both primal and refined.

Lyrically, this is Fen at their most evocative, painting vivid landscapes of morning mists over boggy expanses, twilight realizations of endless sorrow, and the half-heard whispers of spirits bound to ancient soils. The band has achieved that elusive perfect balance between their black metal foundations and post-black metal innovations, creating a journey through grim bogs, languid waterways, and dismal fogs that ultimately offers transcendence from existential ennui.
