Background information about 'Nous, le venin'

French quartet Mourir are back with a statement. Nous, le venin — their second full-length — is not just another black metal record. It's a beautifully ugly, cathartic beast that refuses to sit still. Recorded in January 2026 with Amaury Sauvé (Birds in Row, Igorrr, Pneu) at The Apiary Studio in Laval, the six tracks here feel like a band breaking free from the shackles of genre expectations. Sure, the raw, venomous core of black metal is ever-present, but Mourir weave in thick, sludgy riffs and expansive post-metal passages that give the whole thing a breathing, living quality. Tracks like "Mon Rêve Animal" hit with a gut-punch of low-end fury, while "Je Est Absent" drifts into more ethereal, almost hopeful territory — a sliver of light in an otherwise dark, untethered world. Thematically, the album stares into the void of modern society's absurdity and cruelty, yet somehow finds moments of luminosity. It's that tension — between despair and hope, between raw aggression and melodic introspection — that makes Nous, le venin so compelling. The cover art by Thomas Davezac captures this feeling of disconnection perfectly. This is black metal that looks forward, not backward. A band that understands the genre's roots but isn't afraid to let the air in. Expect to hear these songs tearing up festival stages at Hellfest, Rock In Bourlon and Resurrection this summer.
