The year is 2001. Death metal, once a festering wound of pure filth and sonic violence, had been bled dry by mediocrity. Then, like a dirty needle straight into the vein, came Murder Squad. Spawned from the rotting carcass of the Swedish scene – featuring members of ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, and MERCILESS – this four-headed beast had one mission: to resurrect the depraved spirit of AUTOPSY.

And holy hell, do they succeed. "Unsane, Insane and Mentally Deranged" is not an album concerned with originality or sophistication. It's a full-blown, unapologetic tribute to San Francisco's most deranged sons. From the moment the first riff tears through the speakers, you know exactly what you're in for: filthy, grooving, utterly twisted death metal that sounds like it crawled out of a maggot-infested coffin. The Swedes channel the spirit of Reifert and co. with frightening accuracy, yet inject their own brand of Scandinavian weirdness into the mix. Tracks like "Slowly Burnt To Death" and "Spraying Lead" are pure, uncut Autopsy worship done right – all gurgling vocals, lurching tempos, and riffs that sound like they're collapsing under their own weight. This is the first time this cult classic has seen a vinyl release, mastered for wax by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony. Absolutely essential for anyone who craves their death metal rotten to the core.
