If there ever was a record that wears its influences like a blood-soaked badge of honor, this is it. Murder Squad's "Unsane, Insane and Mentally Deranged" is a filthy, glorious tribute to the sickest corners of death metal — and it doesn't pretend to be anything else.

The year was 2001. Death metal had been on life support for a while, diluted by safe production and sterile songwriting. Then came this Swedish supergroup of sorts, featuring members of ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER and MERCILESS, and they decided to throw a spiked boot right through the window. Their mission? To resurrect the rotting corpse of AUTOPSY, plain and simple. And damn, do they succeed.

From the moment "Slowly Burnt To Death"* erupts from the speakers, you know exactly what you're in for: downtuned, lurching riffs, guttural vocals that sound like they're gargling gravel and battery acid, and a production that's just dirty enough to feel dangerous. Tracks like "Twisted High" and "The Return Of The Rotten" stomp and crawl with that unmistakable Autopsy swagger — that weird, drunken, off-kilter groove that makes you wanna puke and headbang at the same time. "Spraying Lead" is a highlight, a slab of pure, unhinged violence. And the title track? Absolute filth.

This isn't about originality. This is about worship. And when the worshippers are this skilled, the result is nothing short of essential for anyone who loves their death metal ugly, raw and completely unapologetic.
