Background information about 'Fallen Angel's Dominion'
Some debuts arrive quietly. Thulcandra's first full-length does the exact opposite — it kicks the door in and lets the cold pour through. "Fallen Angel's Dominion" is blackened death metal built the old way: tremolo riffs stacked like icicles, blastbeats that hit like a blizzard against a frozen window, and vocals rasped from somewhere far below the permafrost. The spirit of the early nineties hangs over every second of it, and that is entirely the point.
Guitarists Steffen Kummerer and Sebastian Ludwig are the engine here, weaving a dense web of raging riffs that never lose their melodic thread. That balance is the record's real trick — it stays uncompromisingly heavy without ever forgetting to write a hook, and tracks like the title cut and "Everlasting Fire" prove it again and again. The whole thing was forged at Wooshed Studios with V. Santura and Kummerer behind the desk, giving the album a sound that is sharp, spacious and genuinely frostbitten. Add artwork from Kristian Wåhlin — the man behind classic covers for Dissection, Emperor and Dark Funeral — and you have a package that looks exactly as it sounds.
