Background information about 'Fallen Angel of Doom'
There are debut records that kick a door open, and then there is "Fallen Angel of Doom". When Blasphemy unleashed this thing in 1990, black metal was still finding its vocabulary, and these Canadians simply tore the whole dictionary apart. Recorded on a budget so meager it practically bleeds through the grooves, the album sounds like a ritual captured on a dying tape machine: guitars like rusted chainsaws, drums hammering away with zero mercy, and those unearthly howls that seem to come from somewhere far below the studio floor. It is death, speed and grind all shoved into the same cauldron, and the result is gloriously ugly in the best possible way.
What makes it so enduring is the sheer conviction. You can hear the lineage of Sarcófago, Sodom and Bathory in every ragged riff, yet Blasphemy pushed it somewhere even more primitive and menacing, both in sound and in the infamous imagery that came with it. Three decades on, nothing here has aged into comfort. It still feels dangerous, still feels like a secret you should not be holding. This reissue stays faithful to the original pressing and finally restores the lyrics to "Hording of Evil Vengeance", "Darkness Prevails" and "The Desolate Ones", which were left off back in the day. A poster comes along for the ride, because of course it does. Essential, untouchable, and still unsurpassed.
