Howl From Underground is the sound of a band that never needed a map to find the dark. Wolfbrigade have been hammering out Swedish d-beat and crust for decades now, and this record shows exactly why they remain untouchable in that world. The guitars are razored and cold, the rhythm section locks into that relentless, galloping charge that only a handful of bands ever truly mastered, and the vocals come at you like a warning shouted through a wall of feedback. There is melody buried in the chaos, too, those bleak, anthemic leads that lift the whole thing above mere bludgeoning.
What makes Howl From Underground hit so hard is its sense of momentum. Nothing here sits still. Tracks tumble into each other, riffs get twisted and turned, and just when you think you have the shape of a song figured out, the band kicks the tempo up and drags you along. It is furious, it is dirty, and it is played with the kind of conviction that no amount of studio polish can fake. Wolfbrigade sound like they are still hungry, still angry, still convinced that a loud, fast, ugly song can say more than a thousand words.
