Lux Ex Inferis, the fourth full-length from Germany's Servant, is very much the latter – a sprawling, majestic beast of melodic black metal that refuses to be pigeonholed.

Since their formation in 2021, Servant have been on an absolute tear. Following up the critically acclaimed Death Devil Magick from 2024, this new opus sees the band expanding their sonic palette into something far more ambitious. The epic song structures and haunting, almost cinematic melodies create a dense, layered atmosphere that pulls you deep into its world. This isn't just blast beats and tremolo picking – there's a sense of grandeur here, a theatricality that feels both ancient and refreshingly modern. The production is crisp, allowing every intricate guitar line and atmospheric passage to breathe while still retaining that raw, underground edge.
